Via Antonella
House Special: "Hanger-Steak"
Don’t be put off by its fancy-sounding Italian name–Via Antonella may seem like one of those sophisticated fine-dining places. But that’s probably because of their simple yet classy exterior signage, their tastefully-done interior decoration, and their high-brow selection of gourmet dishes (which actually includes wine). Their prices, however, are another story. Via Antonella offers the exquisite dining experience at a friendly price, making it perfect for business lunches, group gatherings, or intimate Friday night dates. Via Antonella is located together with its other casual-dining neighbours at the food hub known as 189 Maginhawa.

Jek's Kubo Bulalo at Ulo-Ulo
House Special: Ulo-Ulo in Sinigang sa Miso and Bulalo
You can't call yourself a foodie yet if you still haven't tried the special dishes of Jek's Ku-bo. They serve bulalo like no other place does. Already flavor-filled as it is, they included fresh corn, baguio beans, and cabbage into the stew. The beef, so surprisingly tender and soft that it will make you question your own cooking, is served with sparse amounts of fat and bone marrow, making it perfect for those who want to experience it without the "sakit-sa-batok" part. Their ulo-ulo isn't to be ignored, with their flavorful soup complimenting the sweetness of the fresh salmon. And what better way to end an excellent meal than with a fresh drink of Jek's Buko.
TRIVIA: Wondering why it's called Jek's Ku-bo despite the absence of any kubo in sight? That's because it's actually not a reference to the nipa hut, but a portmanteau of the names Jek and Kuya Boy.
